Silent Leader

The Silent Leader Activity was designed to assist students practice leadership without the comfort of a known title. Middle-school and high school students alike grow restless after a full school day. Thus, when the session may become too talkative and distracting the silent leader is given the unknown responsibility of striving to bring the group’s attention back to the educator. Only the silent leader for the day and the educator know who has been chosen. The activity provides a safe space for the student to practice leadership, assertiveness, and grow confident in doing so. The educator then meets with the silent leader of the day at the end and provide feedback on what they did well and what can improve next time it is their turn. When they are chosen again, they are reminded of the areas they are strong within, and can improve upon.
